## Getting crews to the site

Public transport does not serve shift work at the site. Most crews use their own vans or rented minibuses. Check with the rental company which licence category the vehicle needs.

## Meals, laundry and shopping

- Canteens and meal delivery: [catering companies](https://vaasasuppliers.com/suppliers/catering/) run site canteens and deliver hot meals to housing. Halal and vegetarian options on request.
- Laundry: [laundry and cleaning companies](https://vaasasuppliers.com/suppliers/cleaning-laundry/) collect and return laundry weekly, including workwear.
- Shops: large grocery stores are open every day, usually from 7 to 22. Alcohol is sold until 21. Stronger drinks are sold only by the state alcohol monopoly, which is closed on Sundays.
- Pharmacies keep shop hours. There is a pharmacy with extended hours in the city centre.

## Winter

From November to March expect snow, ice and short days. In January and February it is often colder than −10 °C. Get winter tyres and warm workwear, and allow extra time for the drive to the site.

## What Finnish rules require

This site does not restate the rules. The links go to the authority.

- Employer-provided housing: the construction sector collective agreement sets minimum standards, such as room size, a room of one's own for longer stays, kitchen, washing facilities, laundry and cleaning. - Posting notification: a company that posts workers to Finland must notify the occupational safety authority before the work starts. [Reporting duty for posted workers](https://tyosuojelu.fi/en/employment-relationship/posted-worker/reporting-duty)
- Tax number: everyone working on a construction site in Finland needs a Finnish tax number and a photo ID card. ## Questions people ask

### Can workers share rooms?

Shared rooms are common for short stays. For longer stays the construction sector collective agreement requires, among other things, a room of one's own. The Occupational Safety Administration's page on accommodation conditions has the details.

### Who pays for the housing?

Normally the employer. Whether any of the cost can be charged to the worker is regulated. The Occupational Safety Administration explains the rules for posted workers.

### How far ahead should we book?

For 50 beds or more, months ahead. Capacity in the region is limited, and the city expects thousands of workers by summer 2027.

### Does this site book or take a commission?

No. It lists providers and forwards requests. You contract directly with the provider.

### Can we bring our own modular housing?

Possibly, on a suitable plot and with the required permits. Modular and container housing providers are in the directory. The municipality's building control decides on permits.
